Community

The Shamrock House is the leading landmark in Eat Durham. Meet you at the Shamrock....The Kellegher Family have been pillars of the East Durham community throughout the years.

Our community involvement began in 1938 when Patrick Kellegher, his wife Winifred and their five children became active in such organiHamlet of East Durhamzations as the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign War, the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company, 200 Clubs and the Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

They made the facilities of the Shamrock House available to community groups at no expense.  In later years the Kellegher children, now third generation,  continued to be involved in all the afore mentioned organizations, as well as the local school district, the church and the various county business organizations.

Irish Riders

One of the many organizations that return to the
Shamrock House year after year.

A Bit About Our Community

EAST DURHAM….

Countryside resembling the green hills of Ireland has earned East Durham the nickname “The Emerald Isle of the Catskills”.  A popular vacation spot for over 60 years, East Durham was designated as the site of the New York State Museum of American Irish History by the New York State Legislature.

Neil Patrick tows a Holiday Float in the East Durham 4th of July Parade. The East Durham Irish Culture and Sports Center is located a very short walk away from the Shamrock House.

The Center is the site of the Museum, Festival Field, Irish Football Field, the John E. Lawe Memorial and, very special to us, the Patrick Kellegher Memorial Little League Field.
